Trieste and films – a new point of view to discover the town

It’s no mystery that Salvatores’ The Invisible Boy was shot in Trieste, but how many people know that Trieste and surrounding areas were the set for films such as The Godfather – Part II, The English Patient or even Julia and Julia, the 1987 film which features a young Sting in actor’s garb? With Esterno/Giorno from June 2016 until May 2017 you can go and discover these and other curiosities. A different way to become acquainted with and appreciate Friuli Venezia Giulia culture, its quirks and the most noteworthy places in and around Trieste through the eyes of Cinema.

A walk through the Trieste of cinema. A journey of discovery through the city, taking in cinematic locations with references to the history and the construction of the urban landscape and the city’s architecture.

Thanks to the new technology, there are new ways to explore the last 20 years of film sets in Trieste inside state buildings that are not usually open to the public. With a tablet to direct them, the user wears a virtual reality headset to guide them through the various 360° surroundings and backdrops, which are highly detailed and full of ‘easter eggs’ superimposed on their screen. The guide assists the participants in discovering the most noteworthy places inside a given location, thus allowing the participant to compare their surroundings with the film sequences directed in that particular spot. These walks are organized by the movie critic Nicola Falcinella, who builds all visits completely tailor made on the single client.
